My gas light indicator light

My gas indicator light remains on despite
having  a full tank of gas.  What is the
problem ?I have checked the gas cap

Bad Sending unit, theres a float with a sensor and it activates at a certain level, when it goes, it always thinks your empty. My car it was part of the fuel pump but sometimes its separate. Never cheap or easy to get to. Drove around 2 years with tape over the light and just always filled up every few hundred miles.
