How many timing chains are on my 2004 Buick Century?

Asked by GreenFamily Aug 31, 2016 at 10:12 AM about the 2004 Buick Century Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On Friday, 8/26/2016, my car shut off while driving. When I pulled over, there was smoking coming from either under or around the motor. I was informed by road side assistance that my timing chain had broken. I was informed by Autozone that my car has two timing chains. Is this true? If so, how could I determine which has broken or should I just replace them both? Does it come in a kit for 2 if this is so? Please, can any one help?

The car has only 1 timing chain. go to www.rockauto.com and enter your information to look up the part. Look under engine and then timing set.

Changing the timing chain is not the average do it yourself type job.

I have viewed some of the you tube options. What would you suggest? I can't really afford the labor.

I have no way to determine if the timing chain is indeed the problem and I have no way to gauge your mechanical ability in making such a repair. So I would make no recommendations regarding you making the repair. Perhaps a friend or a local mechanic can help. Also the problem needs to be diagnosed properly first before a repair is attempted.
