2005 BMW X3 overheating

Asked by Britney Oct 15, 2020 at 02:16 AM about the 2005 BMW X3 3.0i AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I’m not sure why my car keeps over heating
no more . I replaced the radiator fan , water
pump, coolant temp sensor, and thermostat. I
flushed heater core only get heat while driving
when in park it blows cold . When at a stop it
blows cold then hot while moving . Not a
blown head gasket because no coolant in oil
and no smoke . The coolant is disappearing
but idk where . It goes hot I pull over and turn
it off no smoke nothing . I’m tired of working
on this car and I don’t know what’s wrong
with it

Make sure the coolant recovery tank is not cracked and leaking. A common problem with these. If it's not and you're still losing coolant have the coolant tested for combustion gases. If combustion gases are present in the coolant you have a blown head gasket or a cracked head. The coolant has to be going somewhere and if it's not leaking externally where you can see it, it has to be leaking internally. A pressure test of the cooling system wouldn't hurt either. It should hold pressure for a minimum of 15 minutes. Hope that helps! Jim

Make sure you follow the proper bleeding procedure as well after you replace the expansion tank.
