have the engine light scanned and see what codes are pulled.

If no codes...try running a jumper from the battery ground to the engine block to the body/frame (make sure all points have shiny clean connections)...it doesn't have to be large gauge wire, not much current flow. Often times, thru rust or just age related corrosion, the grounds, which are extremely important aren't at the same potential as the battery ground anymore causing strange electrical problems.
