Have 2007 2500HD 6.0 silverado ext. cab, check engine light on with P430 code, what can cause the P430 code other than the catalytic converters needs replaced?
Any help would be much appreciated

The causes could be: Three way catalyst converter Bank 2 Exhaust tube Intake air leaks Fuel injectors may be faulty Fuel injector leaks Spark plugs may be faulty Improper ignition timing Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Sometimes replacing the o2 Sensors may fix the code but usually the Catalytic Converter needs to be replaced. Although I would check these possible problems a Catalytic Convert is not a part that usually wears out and needing replaced usually a Rich Mixture or Misfire can create this problem.

Your reply is much appreciated, I have checked / fixed some of the causes you mentioned, hopefully I will find the problem without spending $1200 + on new Y-pipe and cats from the dealer.

JRKPerformax Once again I appreciate your time to help me with my issue. After testing everything you mentioned and not being able to clear the PO430 code, I finally change the catalytic convertors with OEM parts, after replacing the cats I erased the codes and drove the truck for cpu reset, engine light did not come back on and code reader did not read any other malfunctioning issues. I went to IL. emissions for test and passed. I do have another question, over the years I put additives in the gas IE: fuel injector cleaner products and other similar fluids, would this cause the cats to go bad? The truck is 2007 2500 HD 6.0 with 94000 miles? Thanks again for advice

I appreciate the Feedback. Over use of additives can shorten the life of a Catalytic Converter. The best thing is to do is regular maintenance and not use much fuel additives. Some people use Shell Gasoline because they have special additives already in the gas that doesn't affect the Catalytic Converter.
