I was trading in my 2008 Mercury Mariner with new 17 inch Michelin tires and expensive
wheels. I was buying a 2010 Mercury Mariner with stock 16 inch wheels, 2 new tires and 2
worn out tires. I wanted to swap the wheels and tires. After a lot of internet research, and
speaking with two Ford Parts & Service folks, I was assured they would be compatible.
BUT it turns out mine were NOT because the tire air pressure sensors were different. I
understand there are only two kinds of sensors, and lucky me had each kind. This would
not have been such a big issue, but I was buying a used car in Columbus OH, 3 hours
south of me. So I was trying to assure compatibility before buying the car.
Basically the resolution was I did not swap the wheels.
Had the two cars been closer to each other, I could have had them checked out before the
car purchase.
