If your truck is for personal use it then it is not considered a commercial vehicle. However, if a pickup truck this size is used to conduct business like plowing snow it would be a Class C commercial vehicle. Now Class B commercial vehicle would be much bigger truck with a GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) of over 26,000 lbs fully loaded weight. And Class A is a semi tractor. Call DOT and check my info but I think you will be legal with a passenger registration. Owning a commercial vehicle causes a lot of license, insurance, check point, road tax and log book headaches you don't want. I know, I drove them all. BTW, that's a fine looking truck.
Somewhere around 6,000 pounds I think. I believe you get a break if the GVW is less than 10,000 pounds. Some F250's were ordered that way as an option.
Thank you guys very much i appriciate it!!
I have a 2000 Ford F-250 SD with the 7.3 diesel and I had it weighed at a CAT SCALE at a Flying J truck stop. With a full tank of diesel, it weighed 7980 lbs.
A commercial motor vehicle is determined by the gvwr or gross weight of the truck or combination of a trailer being over 10,001 lbs. What class of license needed to driver a commercial motor vehicle has multiple factors. (Class A, B or neither. However a medical card is required to drive a CMV. If you are using the truck for personal use just make sure you register it for the gvwr of the truck and what you are towing. The states want their road tax money.
