2008 chevy silverado Front Differential rebuild

Asked by Treeguy61 Dec 04, 2020 at 07:31 AM about the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic 1500 1LT Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 2008 silverado with 227,000 miles on it. Will
the CV axles and u joints make it sound like the diff
is going bad? Four wheel drive is not used that
often.

Inspect it and see what the problem is. I doubt it is the diff unless someone has been driving it in 4WD on the pavement.

My Ford with 220,000 miles has no noticeable wear on the front portion of the drivetrain which I would expect since it only gets a small fraction of the wear that the rear portion gets. I do have to replace front wheel bearings every 100,000 miles.

Hub assemblies are new. Growl's when in four high. When in two wheel drive it starts whining. Don't know if the growl could be CV joints or u joints.

Are you sure the noise is from the front and not from the transfer case or the rear axle? Are all your tires the same exact size?

Tires are all the same. I do however feel a rumble in the brake pedal when driving in bumper to bumper traffic.
