2008 Chevy Impala Brake Caliper Not Fitting Back On

Asked by Brad May 29, 2018 at 07:06 PM about the 2008 Chevrolet Impala LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I just put new rotors and pads on my front brakes, but having an issue
with one of the calipers. The drivers side caliper went on fine but having
trouble putting the passenger side back on. The pistons in the caliper are not
compressed enough and there is about a quarter of an inch on each
piston(there are 2). A lot of guides online are for single piston brake calipers
so I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I've tried hitting them with a
hammer but everytime I hit one down the other comes up. Help?

Put a small hose one the bleeder screw with a catch can. Open bleeder screw. Compress piston into bore as needed. Large C-clamp may be needed. Insert pads and mount. Close bleeder screw and secure mounting bolts. Please don't hammer your pads.

dont hit them with a hammer, compress them with a C clamp, using the hint above
