Slipping under acceleration

Recently my car just started slipping under
acceleration,  usually seeming to be soon after
startup. I step on the gas and the accessories
seem to have catch-up after i hear the spin. It
makes a noise like a house fan locking up quietly.
I'm no expert, but i am knowledgeable. Torque
converter? The accessories lead me to believe the
serpentine belt, but the spinning noise sounds like
transmission. Could you please give me a couple
examples of what would happen with both of those
things i mentioned, and/or whatever you may
think?
