I have a 2008 Saturn Vue XR. The check engine light came on and the code is PO776 something about a wave plate on the transmission. Is there a recall on this item? I hear that this is pretty common on 2007, 2008, and 2009 Saturn and other GM vehicles with this particular transmission. My car only has 77,000 miles.

Vehicles with a 6speed automatic transmission may develop one or more of the following faults related to a broken 35R clutch wave plate inside the transmission: Illumination of the Check Engine Light with code P0716, P0776, P0717, P0777, P2714, P2715, and/or P02723, loss of reverse gear, slipping or harsh 3rd or 5th gear shift. Removal and dis-assembly of the transmission will be required to replace the broken 35R wave plate. It is also extremely important that all debris from the failed part be cleaned from the transmission while it is disassembled in order to try and prevent future problems.

GM has a silent warranty up to 120,000 miles on this transmission, used various GM vehicles. Hesitation shifting into third gear, reverse and occasionally 5th is s dead giveaway of the problem. My 09 VUE XR had to have the transmission dropped and rebuilt at 115,680 miles. I also have a Saturn VUE Red Line but so far it has not exhibited any problems. Be advised, Ford also uses a version of this transmission on many of its cars. The repair part is an improved version of the wave Plate
