Ford Escape 2008 - random turn signals
Asked by GuruBQYH2 Jul 09, 2019 at 02:18 PM about the 2008 Ford Escape XLT V6 AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Simply driving down the road, my right turn signal started flashing although it
was in the central (neutral) position. The only way to stop it was put the turn
signal into the left turn position. It stopped the right turn, but eventually it resets
and the left blinker starts because of its position. When I put it back to neutral,
eventually the right one starts blinking again.

I have been having the exact same problem with my 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid. I have taken it in multiple times but since it’s not consistently doing this they can’t dupicate the issue and thus can not diagnose it. Have you found a solution? I have seen a couple other people on the internet have had luck switching out their Smart Junction Box.
I switched out the Motorcraft SW6505 Directional Signal Switch but that didn't help.
Update: I had my dealer replace the Smart Junction Box, it’s been a week and my turn signals are back to normal. Total cost after tax was ~$600. Hope this helps.
Thanks, is it still working? How much was the part and labor ? Did they have to reprogram the box ?
Been 3 weeks and the problem hasnt reappeared. I think the part was around $225 and the rest was labor ($140/hr at my dealer). Yes, they had to reprogram the box and they needed 2 keys to do it.
