Replace one tire on AWD

agreed,they are not honering their waranite,just trying to sell you a set of tires.

You can potentially cause damage to the differentials if the tires are not all the exact same The weight/circumference difference side to side or front to back can cause them to work harder leading to premature failure. To be safe all four to be replace to prevent expensive repairs down the road.

The above post is nothing but B S,just because it is all wheel drive dont mean a thing,just like on a 4x4,as long as they are all the same size,replaceing one tire will not hurt a thing.

The same size tire from different manufacture can actually be different circumferences and weight. The cause one side to turn slightly slower making the differential slip to account for the difference. Overtime this heat the diffs up and can actually damage the clutches. If you read the manual of an AWD car it will usually tell you this. If you don't believe me then call some Ford dealerships.

BS again,out of all the questions asked here,you just happen to read up and research this vehicle,I been in the business for over 35 years and seen it all,ASE CERTIFED also CERTIFED STATE INSPECTOR,CERTIFED IN AC ,ALIGMENT,so dont tell me about tire sizes.

I looked it up so I can give an accurate answer based on facts. I don't accuse other poster of making things up for some unknown reason. Ford makes owners manual available online so you can look it up. I can back everything up that I said.

NO need in argueing with a fool,if you knew anything about cars or mechanics,you would not have to look up answers,bet you did a lot of cheeting in school.

I guess since all tires don't wear evenly, you might have to replace all tires every gas fill? Seriously, measure the tread wear on the remaining tires, and if its only a couple of 32nd's wear on them get 1 new tire, exact same model, same size and manufacturer as the remaining tires and you should have no problem. On a normal vehicle with 10k miles on the tires, each tire is going to have a diffferent amount of wear on them anyways.

Basic knowledge is if your drive dirt roads , city streets or freeways your tires wear different, one would think if your anti skid works well it shouldn't be a problem. however to eliminate manufactures defects in vehicles they recommend replacing all four, this is because shortcuts in the production of your vehicle as in the elimination of a adjustment gearing system that allows replacement of one tire, also if that was important all awd would have a suitable spare because of the proper systems are not in place they recommend replacing four tires, they wont meet the mph and emissions standards for the states standards. that's why there's the more plastic and no steel frames in cars and vans under 35000 lb. all so if you read any thing is will say they recommend its not a have to, its called up selling. id just go a buy one used tire and its over. anyone wants to argue well just look i a mirror you both are idiots. now Larry , Papa and Norma are correct if each would just add up all the complete facts you would see if just a way the manufacture, tire dealers and car dealers cover themselves and get profits without really telling you a lie , remember a recommend is not a law that says have to. also alignment wear is another thing. alignment are only good if your only going straight on level straight roads with no bumps. rubber air or nitrogen / helium tires are just really for comfort its another way to cover up a vehicle defect

PAPA doesnt know crap about newer cars obviously. AWD is different from 4WD in the fact that you have no control over weather the AWD system engages or not like you do in 4WD. The AWD system works off wheel speed and with most AWD vehicles the manufacturer requires no more than 2/32" tread depth difference between tires AND all 4 tires same brand/tread pattern to avoid drive train damage as even so small of a difference in tread depth causes the system to think a wheel is always slipping so the vehicle stays in AWD and overheats the drive train potentially causing damage to the transfer case. I suggest you call the dealership for your car and ask the service manager for the requirement for your particular vehicle as some such as Volvo have higher tolerances for replacement.

Also,your 60k mileage warranty doesnt cover roadhazard, only tread wear, so that would not apply to a roadhazard. Check with the manufacturer of your tires as some brands give a free 1 year roadhazard warranty built into their tires.
