Car wouldn't start without jumping it, but the lights and radio worked, does this mean its the alternator?

no...this means it's the battery...tin/antimony batteries don't last like the LEAD ones did....five years tops is what you can expect without pushing the alternator to the limit~ get a NEW battery and clean the end of the 1/0 battery cable as it attaches to the chassis....and clean the chassis with the wirebrush too so that 300 cold cranking amps can get thru----also the connection to the motor block as well~
