Noise in rear after you turn off the car?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So this is my first VW so this might be a stupid question. Anyway i've noticed that at times
when I turn off the engine I can hear a noise coming from the rear on my car, almost like a
compressor or something. Can anyone please tell me what that is exactly? Thanks in
advance!

most Volkswagen have a small air compressor in the back for the door locks, my guess is when you shut the car off the doors unlock, this would trigger the compressor in the back to operate for about 3 seconds or so it is normal.

Does this happen after everytime you turn the engine off? If it's not all the time, do you have an electronic parking brake? The Passat's with electronic parking brakes occasionally automatically adjust the rear calipers every so often. There are electric motors that do this and it happens occasionally after the vehicle is turned off.
