Low Oil Pressure Warning -2008 Passat Komfort 2.0 Turbo. The check engine light and low oil pressure warning came on at 88,000 miles.
The engine knocked loudly and it was towed to a local mechanic. The mechanic's initial diagnosis is
that the oil pump needs to be replaced and it could be linked to the oil sludge issues experienced
with previous turbo models of the engine. Furthermore, just replacing the fuel pump will not resolve
the issue - he thinks further damage has occurred and the entire engine should be replaced. His
thoughts are that the manufacturer's defect has not been corrected and even with replacing the
engine, the issue may reappear in the future. Is this consistent with the experience of owners of 2008
and newer Passat Turbo owners and should replacement of the engine be considered or just focus on
replacing the oil pump at this point?
