Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a pending code P0442 on my VW 2008 Jetta 2.5S. There is no check engine light. It went away after restart of the car. I have a state vehicle inspection coming up ( Texas). How do i clear the pending code?. Seems like the gas cap was not tight enough ( i.e i had not rotated it till i heard the creak sound). Now that i have done it, should the pending code go away?

its a comman code for a loose or malfunctioning gas cap. the code will show up when a shop scans the car but you can clear it by removing the battery cables from the battery. Be sure to have your car stereo code when doing this. other way is take it to a shop pay 128 for a scan and they will wipe the codes out for you. last way is if you got a code scanner of your own you can wipe it out yourself. and belive me when i say as long as the engine light is not on whe nyou go in youl be fine.
