Catalytic converters

Asked by Carmen Apr 26, 2016 at 04:37 AM about the 2008 INFINITI G37 Journey Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I took my car in after service engine light came on.
They told me I need new catalytic converters. Im
not sure what the code was. I did notice my cars
performance has decreased especially while I'm
going uphill or while increasing speed. Do you have
any recommendations on what type of convertor
(brand, HFC's) I should use as a replacement?
What other things should get checked to know
what caused this problem in the first place?

Would need to know what the code was, but the symptoms you describe fit cats. The shop would get the correct cats for your vehicle.

First have a complete diagnostic scan with a Nissan Consult III scanner. Next, the correct diagnostic procedure is to check the pressure in the exhaust system. There is a "back pressure" spec a competent service facility will check this and record the results, before ever changing a catalytic converter(s). There are lot's of potentials for power loss besides / or in addition to catalytic converter(s) The reason for a I only use Factory OEM scan tools! for each manufactures vehicles. Regards

Factory catalytic converters hardly fail, might be your o2 sensors.

Get ready to spend $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ if it is the catalytic converter. Only use OEM parts
