AWD

Asked by Karen Apr 17, 2018 at 10:11 AM about the 2008 Pontiac Torrent Base AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

One day when I was driving,  the AWD turned off.
The car drove great and used 1/3 of the gas.   I
loved it.   It turned itself back on.   How can I get it
turned back off for the summer months?

This falls into the "too good to be true" category. AWD typically affects MPG by about 2-3 MPG in most vehicles. I have owned 3 SUV's with AWD and all only slightly diminish the mileage figure. I suggest you recalculate your savings before attempting any modifications to your car. If this was true, wouldn't you think the manufacturers would be putting it their advertisements or selling it to you as an "option"?
