Could my water pump pulley be the problem?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have replaced the tension assembly,
serpentine belt, and compressor and
whenever I turn on the air the belt still squeals.
The water pump pulley looks worn and very
shiny. My question is could that be worn
enough to cause the squealing even though
there is no noticeable problem with the pumps
function?

If everything is clean a worn belt can cause the squealing , A small oil leak can also cause it to squeal but a little belt dressing can take care of that . Belt dressing - wiper fluid - painters caulk just about anything can stop the squealing . But if it's persistent there's another problem . Has the belt been replaced ? Is it the correct size ?
Check the belt tensioner. If it's at or near the end of its travel you probably need a shorter serpentine belt. If that's ok, clean the water pump pulley. It may be glazed. That's very unusual but it can happen. If all else fails spray some belt dressing on the serpentine belt to help it grip better. Hope that helps! Jim
I will definitely try the belt dressing prior to the water pump! Thanks
You're welcome. Glad to help! Jim
