Why will the driver side rear brake begin to lock up suddenly?

Driving on highway. Have not applied brakes for any reason. Suddenly, Electronic Stability Program (ESP)  Anti Lock brake and ESP/BAS indicator lights are on. Pull over to investigate brakes, only the driver side rear brake/tire rim very hot, some smoke. Others brakes are fine. Notice brake pad are applied to the rotor. Wait a few minutes. Tap the caliper,  pump brake pedal several times, apply/release parking brake several times. Wait 10 minutes for brake to cool down. All indicator lights are now off. Back on highway slowly, eventually increase speed, everything seems fine. Is the sensors on this brake faulty? Thoughts?

You possibly have a bad caliper that is sticking or something in the ESP programming that went haywire. I would think if you hadn't applied the brakes then the caliper might not be at fault. This might be something to see the dealership about. Also try to do some "googling" on the issue.
