rear floor console

2008 Ford Explorer Limited V8 4x4 with quad seats.

I was wondering if the rear floor console can be removed. We would like easier access to the back seats and this would enable us to not have to remove a infant car seat.
If it can be removed, is there carpet underneath and is there brackets/wires that would be in the way for everyday use.

It can be removed with a few screws. I have an '04 with rear buckets and am guessing it is pretty much the same. There are no wires (on mine) but there is a black bracket the size of the console underneath which is pretty jagged and ugly. Unfortuately the bracket is welded to he frame so its not removeable. I wanted to do the same as you do!
