2008 Ford explorer keeps shutting off while driving

Asked by Corinne Jun 27, 2019 at 09:19 AM about the 2008 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2008 Ford explorer keeps shutting off while driving.  We have to undo the
battery and reset the computer to get it to restart.  Had it to the garage and
they replaced the throttle body.  Was idling rough before that, the idle is
better now but still once in a while idles rough on startup or at a red light.
They told my husband it could be the computer but was unlikely and that if it
is Ford won't be putting the computers for sale until the end of July so they
couldn't replace it until then.  We've had it less than six months at 8 weeks
my husband was driving it and it shut off and every sensor light in it came on.
The garage said every sensor went bad at the same time and they replaced
all of them.  Then almost 8 weeks later we started having the current
problem.

Check pcm/computer plug in Ford's are notorious for connection issues. And I've never seen ALL sensors fail simultaneously, possible need to flash, (reprogram) software in computer so it recognizes key. New computer will need this done anyway. Looking at 250.00 all said and done at the dealer

Find another shop to work on your vehicle. This one appears to be leading you on with the "every sensor went bad at the same time" and the statement that Ford "Wont be putting the computers for sale until the end of July". They do not appear to have the skills to properly diagnose and fix your problem.
