2008 Ford Sport Trac V8 engines

Asked by Guru9PGJGJ Jul 20, 2022 at 01:02 PM about the 2008 Ford Explorer XLT V8

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Piston shot. What engine can be replace for a 2008 Sport Trac V8.    My
mechanic says there is nothing that can go in, so the vehicle is junk.  I only
have 120,000 Kim’s,  Always regular oil changes, maintenance, etc.  Vehicle is
in excellent inside and out, except for the motor.    Any suggestions would be
appreciated.

Your mechanic is nuts, there are new and reman engines all over the internet, if you can afford new then there are used engines with a parts only warranty. Even EBay is showing engines. Sounds like you need another mechanic.

It sounds to me like your mechanic wants to get his hands on your Explorer..There are lots of low milage engines at recycling yards. Shop around and get a GOOD used engine and like Mark says (get a another mechanic... Robert

Get a second opinion on what's wrong with your Explorer and if you really do need to replace the engine shop for either a good used one or a freshly rebuilt one. Your mechanic sounds like he either doesn't want to do the job, doesn't know what he's doing, or wants you to give him your Explorer for nothing so he can flip it and make a bundle! Hope that helps! Thanks for your input. It confirms what I was thinking. I have looked online and there are quite a few possibilities out there. I did ask the mechanic if a V6 could be put in and he said yes that’s possible but he doesn’t have time to do that. It would have been nice if he had said that in the first place.

You don’t want the V6 version, nothing but problems, stick with the V8 you will be better off.
