Clock doesn't work
Asked by latzanimal Dec 28, 2018 at 06:05 AM about the 2008 GMC Yukon SLT1 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I recently replaced the fuel pump. While doing the repair, I disconnected the
battery. It was disconnected for around 24 hours. Since reconnecting the
battery, everything works except the clock. Radio kept all of my presets, etc.
Could it have shorted out when disconnecting or reconnecting the battery?
Everything else on the radio works....

Check your fuses for your radio or might have to change your function to get clock section on your radio program settings and then switch the clock to the on display mode...

There is no where to change the function....

Could there be a a fuse on the radio? I pulled the fuse FOR the radio under the hood in the fuse box. Left it out for about half an hour. Put it back and still no good...
The same thing happen to me when replacing the throttle body sensor... Did you ever get it to work?

I can increase the value of my 1981 Oldsmobile by $5,000 if I can get the clock working. It will be the only 1981 one on the road with a functioning clock. Seriously, it has not worked since 1985 when I bough the car, and it would be so cool to get it working again. I remember in the 60s and 70s, probably the 80s - all the clocks seemed to be non functioning in all in the cars my dad ever had.

Dealer told me to do a hard reset by taking both battery terminals off, touching the cables together for approximately 1 minute, and then reconnect. I haven't tried it yet. Been too cold...
Did this work? I am dealing with the exact same issue now after the dealer disconnected the battery to do some work.
latzanimal answered 5 years ago
Haven't tried it yet Guru. Planning on this weekend...
OK - if you could respond here with your results I'd really appreciate it. You don't realize how much you miss having a clock in your car until you don't have it! (I'm guessing you know this by now)
Same issue. Any resultion from anyone out there?

I tried disconnecting both cables from the battery in our 2008 Yukon, held them touching each other for a count of 60 ... waiting for any capacitors to lose their charge. Radio presets were still there (although the names were gone until I visited each station and saved them again) The clock was still doing the same thing ... You see the " : " but can not change/set the time.

Found it !!! Go back into the MENU>DISPLAY ... Then do a long press in the lower left corner ... after about 15-30 seconds a new screen will appear asking for a PIN ... "295660" get's you into a new control screen. On page two you can set the clock (which is set to the year 2000 !!) BE AWARE it wants the time in GMT !!! I don't deserve the props for the find .. it was on this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btlu6CBeJQs&feature=youtu.be

The video listed above worked. Thanks Mike for posting!

Mike you are my hero! Video worked here as well... Thank you!
Thank you thank you!! The long press (while in park) and code worked. I was able to set my time in there and then adjust it normally on the screen afterward. As someone else mentioned, it's in GMT and I never can adjust right for that in my head. Thank you again for providing the answer!
This weekend I installed an armrest Qi charger in my 2011 Yukon Denali and my clock only showed the ":" since I reconnected the battery terminal. Every day after lunch I would check my fuses and when I got home from work I would pull the dash apart looking for either a blown fuse or a loose wire from the bundle I tapped into for power to the Qi charger. Everything was like I never messed up my truck in the first place... LoL… Thank you for sharing this video as it just resolved my clock issue. Funny thing is that when I bought my Yukon, I was surfing YouTube for weeks and this is one of the videos I had saved after watching it. Either way, I'm good to go now, thank you once again for saving me a $150.00 trip to my Chevy/GM dealer for a $100.00 diagnostic and $50.00 labor charge to do what I did in 2 minutes.
Video above worked !!!!!!!
Woo hoo!! It worked! Having no clock after changing the battery was driving us crazy!!! Thank you!!
Thank you! The video worked!!
Thank you MikeDaGeek, worked for me. I was helping my girlfriend’s mother out with the problem. She was getting ready to bring her vehicle back to the dealership that just overcharged her in an oil change. When the vehicle came back had no clock. When she called them she was told they may have left a wire unplugged when they dropped the transmission to replace gaskets. If not that she would need to replace the radio at a cost of $1000.00. Thanks again.
Thank you so much! ❤️The dealer said I needed a new panel.
Another thankful guy! Video did trick
You Tube Video on clock reset Menu - display- then finger on screen lower left corner of screen-it takes time then box pops up - punch in # 295660 - then you can reprogram.
That was absolutely the correct solution! Awesome. Just touch lower left corner, is nothing there except for a blank area on the screen. Hold and the pin screen suddenly appears! worked well on our 2011 Yukon XL. thank you so much!
I just tried the code 295660 in the youtube video mentioned above on my Tahoe LTZ 2010 and it worked.
What if I don't have a touch screen? 2009 GMC Sierra
Thank you, same issue, new battery and no clock. This worked.
Brilliant. This was driving me crazy too. If you are in th US, back up to your time zone and adjust off the GMT. Thanks!

Same problem with clock after replacing battery last weekend. Only difference is, mine will display correct time ONLY when touched. Fools me all the time!
wow. amazing that pin and setting worked perfect. you are a life saver.
I have the 2008 Yukon Hybrid with the Hybrid radio and just installed my second replacement battery (first time it did not do this) - and this PIN trick did not work - I pressed the lower left corner for up to 2 mins and get no secondary screen... I called GMC and they are telling me that about 5 different models of those navigation radios are having an issue and a bulletin came out on it in February but so far "no fix" - when I brought up the PIN fix others have mentioned the support person said they had nothing on it in their system - I know it works because I have watched several YouTubes but none of them were the hybrid radio but were otherwise very similar radio's - any other thoughts? I also do not have any MP3's in my disc player (as was also mentioned) -
PIN worked for me, but seems I have a different setup. I don't know if it was on this forum, or another, but one recommendation was to hold the battery cable ends together to "unload" any juice that might be in the system. Sort of a "reset". Since it worked for you on previous occasion, it's possible that you achieved a suitable state for clock/battery reset, and maybe touched cable to ground, inadvertently. Stab in the dark, but who knows.
This worked for me. I have a 2010 Sierra with OEM navigation retrofit. In case anyone else has replaced their GM stock radio with a factory GM Navigation, this PIN number will get you into Screen Diagnostics mode also.

Did you try MikeDaGeek's youtube vid above? Has helped a lot here...
thank you for the instructions on how to get to the display diagnostics screen,I had my suburban in shop for transmission rebuild and the clock did not work after I got it home,I followed your directions and reset the date, time and all is good now
I posted a Video on how to fix this and how to reset the navigation calibration. My location needed to be reset as it showed me 2 miles to the West of my actual location. https://youtu.be/lNJ6GmNCVh0 Go back into the MENU>DISPLAY ... Then do a long press in the lower left corner ... after about 15-30 seconds a new screen will appear asking for a PIN ... "295660" get's you into a new control screen.
The code worked for me too! I have a 2009 Yukon XL Denali. Thanks!

Please help if you can! I picked up my 2011 GMC Yukon Denali from the dealer after a dash replacement. The clock would not reset, so after trying the solution above, it works! However, no radio stations will tune In now, none. What can I do? I've been searching all over and find nothing. Ugh
Mike DaGeek, you are a God-sent blessing. Thank you for the re-set code. I had to try it three times, but IT WORKED! Thank God for you!
When I push the lower left corner no secret menu appears. I hold it down for 2+ minutes and nothing comes up. I have a 2009 suburban. Any thoughts??
It worked!! Thanks so much.
Thanks Mike it work so well
I put in the code and set the GMT time but when I tried to hit set it will not. What can I try next?
MikeDaGeek answered 4 years ago
GuruPR5Z6; Any chance you can upload a pic of the screen when you have things set and are ready to save?
This worked for me. It took me several tries. Clock wouldn't stay at what I set it. It kept changing, but after 3 attempts it finally stayed to my current time. Someone suggested it may have been confused based on location.

I have a fix most GM cars and trucks for the clock problem go to Ebay and search for you vehicle. https://www.ebay.com/itm/254510575800 The cause of the condition is an internal software issue in which the GPS system week counter rolled over to zero, creating the issue. This software will fix the problem. I can solve this problem for most GM vehicles.
The YouTube video was spot on for my 2011 Yukon Denali. Thanks Mike.
2007 Yukon. Just bought it and for 2 weeks the clock has been driving me crazy!! My kids too lol. Thanks for the video it worked!!
