Is the car lien you're showing valid?

Asked by Mike Dec 09, 2021 at 11:07 AM about the 2008 Jaguar XJ-Series XJ Vanden Plas RWD

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

You're showing that my car that I'm trying to sell has a lien; however, I have the
title. Loan was paid off. I guess the lien you're showing is incorrect?

In some States, like mine, you, the owner, must go to your local Motor Vehicle Agency with the title and have them remove the lien information from the vehicle. If you don't, like me, the lien information will continue to report until you sell the vehicle and the new owner clears the title into their name. For example if you run the VIN for my 2008 Grand Marquis you will see it still has a lien on it even though I paid it off in 2016. That's because I refuse to go to DMV and report that I paid off the loan. It's not my job to do that in my opinion! Hope that helps! Jim
