2008 chrysler T/C egr valve problems

Asked by Bakerfifty Jul 10, 2016 at 12:51 PM about the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country Touring FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the egr valve and the map sensor, but I
still get codes P0405, P0406.  It also has a lot of
roughness in the engine. What could be the cause
of this?

Does it run rough at idle and low RPMs or high RPMs? The EGR should be closed at low RPMs, but if there is something wrong with the circuit or sensor, it will be stuck open and cause an engine to run rough (exhaust gases burn slower and at lower temps).

At lower idle it may be a sign the EGR valve it still open when it should be closed. Either a faulty EGR valve or sensor or circuit.

If it is a 3.3 or 3.8 chances are that it is a bad EGR valve, proper diagnosis should be done before replacement. It is best to use OEM though they do cost a lot more, the unbranded and cheap Chinese knockoffs almost always either don't work at all or fail very quickly.
