rear hatch won't open. How do we access the lock mechanism?

I removed the quarter sized cover for the access hole (toward the bottom of the door) on my 11' Nox. Used my pen light to see the latch pin and pushed it with flat head screwdriver. Opens the door fine. The door, once closed will not reopen unless I repeat the manual operation. Get this, when I took it to the dealer to have it looked at, the door opened and closed just fine. As soon as I left the problem came back. Kind of eerie, don't you think? Plan to take it back again and have the issue trouble shot.
@disko - same thing is happening on my '10 Nox. Were you able to find a more permanent fix? for now, flat head screwdriver is the only way to go for us =/
I ended up replacing the mechanism. If I recall, it ran less than $100.
ended up getting it fixed at the Chevrolet dealer as well, for around $150.
The push pad failed on mine. I bought #22862011 for $20. @ dealer. Remove the interior cover ( there is a hidden star head screw under a cover @ left center bottom) & remove the crome pice (4 nuts, squeeze 2 push pins) wire in New switch. To open the hatch I pryed out the switch & used a pin though 1 wire & just into the other. New switch is better.

It is clearly a design flaw. There are so many in the Equinox as to make it a bad joke.
Anyone know what the part is called

They need to put a recall on the rear lift gate problem.
They do need to do a recall on this really
Mine does exactly the same thing. I can open it if I crawl in the back and push the little silver lever in the quarter size hole in the plastic but once closed, will not reopen. The rear windshield wiper also does not work. I am going to look at the fuses next.....then I will try replacing the switch. Good luck.....this car has so many issues !!?!
