Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2008 Nissan Pathfinder - ran hot if sat at idle for 15+ minutes with A/C on ---
someone borrowed my vehicle and did just that.... it blew the hose (THANK
GOODNESS) A mechanic told them they can bypass the heater core (2nd
picture) so they ran a hose direct - water is spitting out the hole in the top of
the black piece (again, 2nd picture) - I need to order another piece and I do
not know what it is called, can anyone help???

Heater hose and tube assembly, inlet and outlet. The whole assemble shows to be about 200 bucks. Maybe you don't need the whole assembly? Take the broken part off, if applicable, show it to autostore or dealership. And tell them what is for, heater hose and tube assembly. I don't know if they will sell broken part separately, I hope they will.

Thank you for your help. This part is a dealer item only and runs around $275!!! I attached the two hoses that come out of each side of the part (see picture below) in hopes that I can drive it, however water keeps shooting out the piece on the right and I am too scared to mess anything up. I found this and will try it before giving my arm for the OEM part. The piece that breaks is usually the nipple where the bigger hose to the left attaches to. It will literally get so brittle that it will fall off. A quick fix is to get a pvc nipple that is 2 " long at a size of 3/4" outside diameter (0.750") and have a machine shop turn the end of the pvc nipple down to roughly (0.722") outside diameter x 1/2 (0.500) in length on a lathe, where it can barely slide into the plastic distribution block where the nipple breaks off. First, slide the 1 1/2 x 3/4" side of the nipple in the hose (after you peel the broken nipple out of the hose). Use the factory clamp or a aftermarket hose clamp. Then use starting fluid to degrease the turned down area of the nipple and inside the plastic distribution block where the nipple breaks off. Starting fluid will dry it out completely and have it ready for a water resistant epoxy. Starting fluid will evaporate almost immediately so no worrys. Coat the inside and the nipple that was turned down with the epoxy and slide it in. It should barely be enough of a press fit to slide in and out with little pressure. If it's possible, have your pathfinder towed to the machine shop so the machinist can get the press fit right. ( THIS IS IMPORTANT) It needs to just enough on size to slide in and out. Once you use the epoxy and slide it in, let it sit for 24 hours and your done. Cheap fix.

Hi, can you tell what the "the new improved replacement part" is? I have the same problem and I was told to replace the whole assembly.

Cumseealex, can you elaborate any more on the part you purchased. Does it have a specific name or part number? The connecting nipple is broken on mine as well and would love to be able to just replace that canister piece.
