Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 Hyundai Accent manual
transmission I believe the timing belt on it
went out someone told me that when that
happens that it ruins the valves on the head
is this true or does it have some kind of
security or something to avoid that

From what I have found your engine is an interference engine. This means that if the timing belt breaks or jumps time the valves will most likely come in contact with the pistons. A compression check will let you know if this has happened. Any cylinders showing 0psi will have bent valves.
