2008 Commander pcm module

Asked by Gregory9239 Jan 10, 2019 at 06:36 PM about the 2008 Jeep Commander Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

One of my kids used the remote start on my
commander and when the got in the car they
forgot to turn the key fob all the way on. The
car immediately died and would not start. I
had the car towed to the dealership thinking
that it should just be a reset issue, however
the dealership is now claiming that the pcm
needs to be replaced before they can even
determine what is wrong. This is said to cost
1000 just for the part. I can’t help but think
that I am getting ripped off, and when I asked
if it was part of the recall they claimed that it
was not. Please help me either feel better
about this or arm me with facts and
information.

I have seen a few places that offer PCM replacements with lifetime warranty for $250 to $400. they take your VIN and program ready to pug and play. I haven't had any major issues but thinkin about getting one for my 2006 Jeep Commander.
