DOWNSHIFTING FROM D TO 3 to increase mileage

Any danger to the transmission in shifting from D to 3 to slow car.  Does this increase MPG?

Depending on the rate of speed you go from when you downshift it would have no effect on the transmission and it wont help mpg it will just help slow you down and less wear and tear on your brakes.
