Car won't start
Asked by EMC1983 Apr 28, 2017 at 05:04 PM about the 2008 Honda Accord LX-P
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a new battery, new terminals, new battery
cables and alternator.
My car won't turn over!
This all started with my cars dash lights coming on
while driving. They would all light up like a
Christmas tree and then my car would turn off while
driving.
I would always be able to start it or jump it.
Now my care won't crank or turn over however all
lights, ac/heat and stereo works.

On my 2006 Honda Accord there was a recall for the ignition switch. I was too late to claim on the recall so I had to pay to replace it. Though I did the labor myself and saved there (very simple job, took about an hour and a half). My mechanic told me that due to the faulty ignition switch, the alternator was charging the battery too much (overcharging) and this overheated my alternator and went bad. When the mechanic replaced the alternator with a rebuilt alternator, the ignition switch hadn't been replaced yet, so the same thing happened to that one. I went in today and got the alternator replaced again, and since I already had the new ignition switch put in, everything was good. So basically, if you're having this problem, first make sure to check your battery, all the terminals and connections (as you already mentioned). If that's all good, then replace your ignition switch, *then* your alternator. Hopefully that should solve your problem.
I was thinking to start looking into the starter?
Starter starts acting up. It drives ok, then when you stop... it may not start. Then you wait 30-60 min and the starter reaches TDC. It then starts. Crazy. Those are the signs it is a starter.
You can also tap the starter when not starting, with the handle of a screwdriver, And it will. Ring it to TDC faster
