Byron, I have been working on cars & trucks for 43 years now, and have never heard of a reset button for any transmissions. If there is a console between the seats with the shift lever in it, look for a small slot near the shifter lever. It may have a plug or cap in it that you will have to pop out, if you find that, try pushing the ignition key straight down into the slot and while holding pressure down on the key, try moving the shifter lever into park or neutral. Is the car parked on an incline? If so, there may be too much pressure against the transmission locking lever or pawl pin which is keeping the lever from moving. Try having some one rock the car by pushing against it and getting it to move slightly forward and backwards enough to relieve the pressure while someone else tries moving the shifter while it is rocking.
The problem is the trans won't go into park all the way to set all the sensors. And if you do get it into park you have to force it. It can then not start until it is fully into park or get the key out. Or it gets stuck in stick drive but it is not in drive. It is not the cable either. THIS IS A $6 FIX. Unless you have some already. The gear selector rod going down into the transmision is what is binding up. HOW TO Fix! Remove the battery and the tray. Disconnect the cable from the linkage. Remove the linkage bracket by letting the trans turn back to drive by the nut holding it in, once in drive the nut will come off. Then remove the bracket, the bolt is notched, hit with penetrating oil and pull up on it. Remove the park neutral switch bolts then the sensor itself. SOAK the shaft with penetrating oil. Place bracket back on the gear selector shaft and work the gear selector back and forth several times by hand, may take two hands at first. Re oil and repeat until it moves easily with one hand. Reassemble in reverse order and done.
I have a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe, I took it to the shop and because the shifter would not go into Drive or Park, the shifter would only go into neutral and reverse. Now the mechanic is tell me I need the shifter fix and the transmission needs work on it because it's locked and it won't move that the wheels won't roll. Is this true?
