is there a way to play my phone music thru the mp3 plug in ?

Does it appear to be a headphone jack (3.5mm phono) or a wafer connector like on iPods?

Hi Scott, mine looks exactly like that. How can I play music from my phone to the car through that?
That definitely looks like the Apple connector...the easiest way to use that would be to pick up a second hand IPod and populate that with the tunes you like. If you're not in the Apple universe, we might be able to find an adapter. Additionally, the audio unit may have bluetooth audio connectivity which could "connect" to any smart phone and play it's audio through the car's speakers.
Amazon has an iPod Female End to 3.5 mm Male Aux Extension Cable that looks like just what you need. The big electronic box stores will likely have something as well...many folks have this same situation. Lemme know if you need help locating the adapter...I think you have light at the end of the tunnel now.
What year is your car? My 2013 had the same adaptor but with the port for an Iphone 3, which I had at the time and it always charges. My new 2016 EOS has a chord as well with the end piece for the newer Iphone 5/6 but it doesn't charge it when I plug it in.
What one would need is a cable terminated with a USB connector. Then you would need a "dongle set up for wireless connectivity for android operation. You can connect your phone through a Bluetooth wireless connection, Your Iphone is your base that supplies al the sound, calls, etc.
