I have a Mazda Tribute 2008 and the anti theft mechanism locked and I can't start the car. What is the average cost to have this replaced or is there something else I can do?

Try a different key if you have a spare. Sometimes the little RFID chip in the key goes bad or is broken. Something else I might mention, never throw or drop the new style keys that contain the security chip as they are somewhat easily damaged.
I bought this used and only have the one key. But your input is greatly appreciated. What is the average cost to get another key or to fix the mechanism if it is the anti theft itself...do you know?
Usually when there are key and anti-theft issues a dealership needs to get involved as they have the necessary computer equipment to mate the new key to the anti-theft system. Also I am not saying 100% it is the key, but is is a good possibility.
I had it towed to the dealer. Waiting to hear from them what is going on. Just was wanting to get a ballpark figure. Really appreciate your input.
Co-workers Ford Edge was about $125 plus the tow bill. That was for diagnosis and 1 new key. I would guess yours should be similar charges if it is in fact the key. Please post back here when you get it repaired and let me know what the issue was. It might help someone else. Best of luck with it!
I will for sure. I only know at this point it is going to cost $95 just to be put on the diagnostic machine
It was not the anti theft mechanism. It was the ignition switch which had to be replaced and a new key made by Mazda dealer. Total cost including the tow bill $650. Expensive I felt but others have told me it was cheap.
Glad you got it fixed. As you can see, guessing what is wrong with vehicles on a website is not an exact science. $650 including the tow was not horrible.
