did you ck all fuses in the trunk? There is another fuse box under the hood.
michaelmotorcycle83 answered 11 years ago
all fuses checked. i really think its the alarm. I dont have any power except the lights that come on when you open the door, or pop the trunk. i see the open door symbol and the hood symbol on the dash and the beeping sound if i leave the door open.
thejeepdoctor answered 11 years ago
Sounds like bus issue, when gauges are dead and vehc. wont start. What else is inop? Windows, a/c, radio? If this is the case, You need to unplug modules one at a time till bus wakes up. I would start w/radio. There is door modules a/c control head is a module, pcm, airbag, esc, abs,the steering angle sensor. There is a bunch of them. But when you find the bad one, sys. will come up. What I just read is that the can c bus originates in instrument cluster, and powers up PCM and WIN.(wireless ignition node) (node being a module) I would unplug PCM because it will be easiest to get to. Then go to ignition switch and unplug. Correct me if Im wrong, does the mileage area of the dash come on when door opens? Have you done the self test by holding trip odometer button and then turn on key, release button and see if anything happens?
michaelmotorcycle83 answered 11 years ago
I really dont want to sound dumb but i dont know what a bus is. where do i find the cluster to start trouble shooting? and funny you mention it i did hold the trip odometer and turn the key, but i got nothing. no lights on the dash no windows no radio but the doors lock and unlock by the button on the door.
michaelmotorcycle83 answered 11 years ago
im going to pull the pcm but how will i know if something is wrong with it? what am i looking for
thejeepdoctor answered 11 years ago
the gauges should come back. just unplug pcm. The bus is the network between the modules.
THANK YOU....Jeep Doctor. I was having the exact same issues as stated above. I did the self test you described and as of now it's working fine. Thanks again
PLEASE HELP. .. I GOT A 2008 dodgecharger with the exact problem and ive done all of the above to try to fix the problem and nothing .... I even tried getting a new key and still nothing. . Please help ive had it sitting without running for about 2 months... willing to pay if you can help me turn it on. Please call or text 714 420 2582.. my name is andrea
thejeepdoctor answered 11 years ago
Ive been looking at wiring diagrams, and the one thing that ties all things together is the IOD fuse. The fuse #3 that is missing is also necessary. It runs the pcm, fuel pump relay, and inst. cluster. The windows are controlled through inst cluster/cabin control node. A node is a module. The radio is powered by IOD fuse, but controlled by the TIPM.Totally Integrated Power Module. The TIPM is turned on by the WIN. Wireless Ignition Node. AKA ignition switch. Odds are it is that missing fuse.If not, ck the IOD fuse. Oh,you said you replaced the key. Did you have it programmed? I know all this is confusing, but I hope this helps......
I have a dodge charger 09 in I'm have the same problem today my car would not start n I can see is that little red light by the fuel
Thejeepdoctor can you call me 2489256942
After all the searching this forum helped me the most http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t32276_ds501179
thejeepdoctor answered 11 years ago
the little red light is the security light. either your using wrong key, or key may be bad. Do you have a second key to try?
One day after the self test my Magnum was dead again. Magnum has now been idle for over 2 months. I unplugged battery for 30 minutes yesterday and after attaching the cable back it started up fine. Shut it off and now it's dead again. Any other suggestions???????
thejeepdoctor answered 11 years ago
does the red light stay on, on the dash? and do you have a second key? If so try it. I spoke with a gentleman today, he said he wacked top of dash and then it started. Dont wack it too hard....my break dash.
When I put the key in red light flashes once. The chime sound works from door being open but none of the gauges, windows, radio, or air works. I tried swapping relapsed around under the Hood still nothing. I'm thinking Win module or Key fob.
Can someone please help me keep doctor please my car is doing the exact same thing someone please help

Hey guys so I have the same prob with my R/T charger. I put the key in and absolutely nuthing but the dash says key in and door ajar. You can put the key in and turn and u get nuthing, can't even roll up the windows or put the car into neutral... Its a pretty big design flaw considering if your key or the module it plus into goes bad u are stranded and can't even roll up the windows or get a normal tow because the wheels r all locked so the tow is double.. Anyways if the issue isn't the key it is the module it plugs into and they r 345$ for a new one that come with two keys from the dealer... They need to b special ordered from your vin number and it's honestly the biggest piece of shit design I've ever seen considering it went out in me when I was two hours away from home and it cost me 140$ for a tow that no1 wanted to do cuz it can't go into neutral to roll it onto the truck to take the car to the dealer where they ordered me the part that will take a week to get in... I love my car but the way these cars can leave u stranded and out 800$ over a key I will never buy these again
I am having this same exact problem with my dodge charger. It won't start and I see the little red light. The dodge dealership is telling me that the WIN module needs to be replaced which is fine but they are also telling me that in order to program the new WIN module that I will have to buy two new keys (putting the cost to $750) when I already have two perfectly good keys. I am wondering if this is true? Seems to me that if they have to program the new keys to the new WIN module that they should be able to program any two keys to the new module? Please help! Also if I do need two new keys could you please explain why to me?
Steuysteve answered 10 years ago
You don't need the two keys but they told me it comes with the two keys at a cost of about $350. The rest was instal total almost $750. They order the win modual with the vin # but I'm assuming u should b able to just program all four keys to the new modual. I just got my car back 2 days ago but the only difference in the key fobs is that the new one don't have a trunk pop like my old one. They also don't give u new key inserts you have to use the old ones. Good luck on getting it fixed.
a jeep doctor i don't have a problem with my car starting ,but I do have a problem with my power locks they do not work without my key in the ignition . my dome lights do not come on ether without the key in the ignition but my outlet in the center counsel dose work. sorry the car is a 2006 dodge charger someone please help

Help!! im having the same problem wont .start no dash lights . If I keep trying 30min or so sometimes the dash lights come on and it starts..if I turn it off but don't turn the key to the all the back just enough to turn dash lights off and leave the key in it will start back up every time. . Ans sometimes it works fine.. but today nothing...... could it be ignition switch and not the module
Open your passenger Sid e door and close it and see if it will start it worked for me
I started pulling the modules and now I don't even have my odometer working. When I pulled the IOD my alarm started going off and wouldn't let me stop it also.
Hey thejeepdoctor, I have an 09 charger se. I am having the same issues. I unplugged the #3 fuse and plugged it back in and the car started. I went to O'reilly's and got some more fuses. The car wouldn't start but we finally got it running and got it home. I started the car up a couple times more and now the car won't start and my windows are down. I'm not sure where the modules are at that you instruct to unplug. Can you please help?
You have modules under the hood in your fuse box and more in the trunk
Thank you. Joeyj2101 how did you fix the problem?
I ended up taking my 2008 magnum to the dealer. It was the WIN module. Dealer will have to install so they can program and they had to replace both key fobs. $900.00 dollars later It's fixed. I have had No issues sense the fix which is been at least 8 months.
I have a 2006 charger that does the same thing. The red security light comes on and it won't crank. Could it just be the key needs to be replaced, or is it inevitably the WIN?? Since so many of us are having this problem, shouldn't there be a recall?
It's the WIN. I had to have it replaced at the dealership. I tried everything that was suggested, but ultimately that was the case. There definitely should be a recall!

What happened positive and ground wire touch and I smell something burning and then the dash started acting funny
Okay so this happened to me. Went in the mall came out 30 mins later and it was over. All I had was stye security light. Called dodge acted like I was crazy and never heard of such a thing. Car was out of warranty but if u do decide to tow go throw them its $50 to the nearest dodge dealership. Anyway I left it and came back with my dad bc he works on cars. I prayed and took the key in and out turning it each time and all of a sudden dashboard lights came on and I was running. As lsong as I left the fob in the ignition it would would restart every time. If I took it out had to try it over and over. Finally after taking it out about the 5th time it was completely over. Call the dealer they wanted a shit load of money. But I got a # to an auto lock smith. They drove to me which is huge with a problem like this bc dodge won't come to u. They replaced and programmed a new key for me in 15mins. My key wasn't working with the computer anymore so the security light was coming on bc it seemed like it was to the key that went with the veh. Anyway they charged me $205. And I'm up and running. Don't let the deals talk u into getting a whole new system without trying a new key. Also for ppl who know its not the key try's the started relay fuse. In the fuse box under the hood, big five prong black one next to two little fuses. U can't get the fuse at advanced auto but they are at the dealers for about $20. That is a common problem especially for ppl who had a delay when trying to start the car leading up to this problem. Best of luck -Arielle

I have a dodge charger 2008 with the same problem The red light turn on with i put the key in and turn it to run it Any idea what could be wrong with it
CL91447 My 08 Charger w/ 105,000m started fine all day, then last trip home, insert key, no start. Had tow to dealer and that was a over a month back. Dealer quoted $615 to fix and two weeks. Then another two weeks. Now won't take may calls? What now?
My post is two up from yours. I made a lot of spelling eras but basically I replaced my key fob for $205 from an auto locksmith that traveled to me and have had no problems since. Also the starter relay fuse could be out. Any mechanic could let you know if it is. You can tell if it might be that if you've had a delay when trying to start the car and the engine actually starting up. That fuse is under $20 at the dealer. It goes in the fuse box under the hood. It's the big one next to two little fuses. Don't know the # off hand
My key fob was broken and literally falling apart but which is y I replaced it but if yours is in good working condition you can get a new fob battery for under $5 at advanced auto. Sucks if you spent all that money for a dead key :(
My charger is doing this exact same thing. I have a 2008 Dodge Charger and it was working perfectly fine and all of a sudden it wouldn't start. It would start, and then die as soon as I changed gear shifts. It wasn't my starter I went and had it tested, my battery isn't dead, I tried to replace the starter relay fuse. There is a little circular red light right underneath my gas gage when I try to start the car it blinks, and I was told it was the security light thing? My air conditioner, radio, doors, blinkers, and lights all work. I have gas, oil, and everything else I can think of. Does anyone have any experience in the security thing? Apparently there's a switch? Please help. I'm way out of my league here.

Although I can't help anyone I need help myself! I have a 2008 dodge magnum r/t I seem to be having the same issue i see the door ajar light in my dash or trunk open....my car will not crank over I have no dash lights on or radio does not work and does not turn on I can't turn the key and put it in neutral I checked the relay and fuse in the trunk and under the hood got a new battery the security light blinks when I try to remote start it..in the beginning it was telling me bad key I was using the wireless key then tried the regular spare key but still nothing. it did turn on once with the remote start but then the alarm started going off..unfortunately I am out of warranty my car has been parked in the garage for a month and still making payments :( anyone with any ideas please help...I am reading that it's the win module can a dealer give me a new one with a set of keys I can do the work myself any suggestions will be appreciated thanks
Steuysteve answered 9 years ago
It's most likely your Win module not communicating with your key. I had the same issue and paid over 800$ to get a new one from the dealer. The work took them 30 min but the dealership is the only place that can program the key to your car. After a few months of getting the work done I received a recall for the key on all 08 chargers, magnums, 300s, and jeeps. As of rite now they are supposed to find a fix and get back to everyone because people's cars are shutting off on them while driving because of the keys design. That's all I know rite now but I would contact dodge and ask them about the recall.
Dodgehemirt answered 9 years ago
Ok I will call dodge Monday morning to see what they tell me and mention the recall thanks for the help..also if to say they say that I would have to pay do they need the actual car or can I purchase a new win module from them with new set of keys
First I would replace the battery on your key fob which costs $5 at any auto store. Also an auto lock smith can reprogram a key for u. That's what I had done it cost me $205. And my car is running fine. Most of the time it's not the WIN it's just the key not being recognized. Don't let the dealer trick you.
Dodgehemirt answered 9 years ago
Ok I will replace the battery on the remote first and see what happens but I do have two keys one was the wireless key remote and the other being a regular key and it will not start even with the regular key
Dodgehemirt answered 9 years ago
Ok I replaced the battery and that didn't fix the problem...someone told me the actuator pin but I feel like if it was the pin it would start with the remote start that is stock factory....also to refresh dodge magnum r/t will not start there is no crank no dash lights except the one says my doors are open or key in...radio does not turn on neither does the ac interior lights work so do the door locks I tried my keyless remote and my spare key with no remote just a regular key both do not start the car replaced and checked battery checked fuses and relay number 9 I believe it was that everyone is talking about if anyone knows anything let me know I will give it a shot
I Was Having A no crank problem with my 2008 dodge charger. nothinh would come on but my mileage when i would try n start the car found out i had a bad win module aka ignition switch.lucky me there was a recall for my ignition switch called p57 n airbag sensers R25.this recall includes chrsler 300s 07-08 jeeps ect..call chrsler recall n see about your car
And if you already paid n repaired your win module call n see if your call was on that list for a remburstment god bless

Ok I figured out the problem, If you have changed the the starter relay and checked the battery and still no luck. Good News, its the Starter Switch Actuator Pin. and it cost about $45 I was able to pick it up an auto part store that same day. it took me about an hour to place it and finally it work. Trust me I read this tread and try everything with no luck. I kept researcing and found a video on youtube of guy replacing it. The part is a DORMAN 924739 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00n0HDdMNgc&sns=gp Replacing 2007 dodge charger ignition switch actuator pin Check this video out or youtube Replacing 2007 dodge charger ignition switch actuator pin (part 2) This was the only thing that worked for me
I have a 2008 Dodge charger and I am having the exact same problem. I just bought this price of $hit car and it started doing the same thing to me. I am stranded as we speak attempting to wait on it to start. I have replaced the ignition switch and tried to jump the car with no success. I hear a buzz coming from underneath the car every time I turn it over. I have waited for hours for it to start and it acts up when it is hot but now it is freezing and it still won't start so I really don't have a clue what the problem may be. I am truely confused.
Theres a recall on all 2008 dodges n chryslers
CarGarus can u please help having same issue with my 2010 charger sxt shutcar off when tried to restart nothing no headlights Windows will not roll up or down replaced battery thinking that was it and nothing replaced #9 fuse and nothing Im thinkn it may be win and fab just by videos on utube but would love some advice can u please call me Jodie (989)443-4790

I have a 08 dodge charger. I took it to the mechanic to replace my egr valve since the engine light was on and i took it to autozone and it gave me the code for the egr valve. The mechanic disconnected the battery, changed the egr valve and connected the battery. Now the car cranks continuously but doesn't start. Any idea what it could be?
Ok, I believe I have a electrical issue with my 08 Charger.. At first there was a bad rod bearing which was replaced.. Since reassembling the motor, the car would not start. It cranks for split of a second then stops.. I get all powers and everything works.. except that the car does not fully crank and If I keep trying for a while the starter eventually fries.. checked the crank fly wheel and noticed that the engine was REALLY hard to turn.. Not surprised since the oil had metal shards everywhere.. Did a full engine swap at home.. after all was done, SAME PROBLEM... I do notice that when I try to start and get the small crank, all lights go on including the red security light.. Went ahead and towed the car to Dodge and had them replace the ignition switch; they also replaced the keys.. NO LUCK! Dodge is telling me that the engine (which was replaced) is seized.. However the engine moved freely when I checked on the crank wheel.. Can anyone tell me what the problem could be??? Dodge is giving me a hard time because they think I am stupid but I don't think the engine is the problem... Can anyone help???
Check your ignition switch. My 2008 had a recall on ignition switch an it was doing the same as you describe. Dealer changed it out and car has been starting ever since.
