What transmission is the 2008 Chevy Silverado z71

Could be a 4L60E or a 4L80E. It’s best to have the stock one rebuilt if possible. Used ones are a big guess on if it will work.

Look for a tag on the outside of the transmission. That will tell you for sure. Or you can take a picture of the RPO sticker that's usually on the inside of the glove box door and show it to the parts counter at your local Chevrolet Dealer. They can decode it and tell you what transmission is in there. Hope that helps! Jim
