Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Anyone have any opinions on Chevy Silverado 1500 4.8L Vs. 5.3L.  I am looking at used 2008 or 2009 and was wondering about opinions of the two motors.

I have had many 1500 Silverados over the last several years and my 2006 has the 5.3L. I would opt for that if you are planning to tow with the truck. Both are good solid motors but if you can find it get the 5.3L.

Yes, do not buy one. Buy an old style pre 2007. The front end is has greese fitting, stronger and you are able to take off the ball joints. Whereas the whole arm must be replaced if any part goes. The 5.3 is the best engine on the truck marked bar none. Best torque, H.P milieage. Trust me, I own a new style 2007 with 4.8 even though the horsepower is the same as my old 5.3 old style, which I miss, do not go that route. In this case, older definitely is better. I never should have listened to a salesman.

I have a 2007 1500 with the 5.3 in it. Its a great truck. Ive already put 120k miles on it. So far there have been absolutely no problems with it. She runs great and you'll enjoy a chevy. Go with a 5.3!!!

I have a 2007 silverado and it has a 4.8 292 in it it's a W/T model I have had no engine problems. I moved back to kansas a year ago from Massachusetts I pulled just over a ton on the way back and I had no problems whatsoever especially going through appilations mountains.

I have a 4.8 in 03 Sierra. Use only to drive to work. Had 42000 miles when I started drive it. I used only synthetic oil with a quart of Lucas additive. I now have 114k miles on it. No engine noise, does not burn oil. Started it up to go to work and within 15 seconds it thru a rod. Not interested in owning another one. How anyone can get 200 k on one is a surprise to me.

I have 2001 silverado with a 4.8 and 336000 miles on it. does not burn oil. aside from lacking a little power on heavy stuff its been a great truck. I bought it back in 2003 when my ford left me stranded on my way to canada fishing. been a great truck.
