What are the solutions for
engine burning oil at times?

Depends how bad it is...you could just keep adding oil. A lot of engines burn oil at this mileage and your vehicle is 11 years old... other than that engine rebuild..

Thanks Mark. I add about 5oz of oil between changes. At times it smokes a few minutes on a start up then is ok the rest of the day.

A high mile engine can use oil due to wear. The only real solution is a rebuild. 5oz between changes is Nothing at all to worry about. That is not even 1 cup!
