Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Vehicles battery was sluggish  needing to be jumped to start it so we replaced the battery
and now the car will not start.  Also will not allow it to be moved from Park  to Drive or
Neutral.  The dashboard lights will come on, the horn will sound and the remote will work
to lock and unlock the doors.  How can I get this car to start!?

same thing is happening to my car right now. i thought the battery had just died, then it looked like the alternator bc it was dying soon after it was jumped. now we've tried new, powered-up battery, but that doesn't help. won't turn over. dash is lit up. tail lights/brake lights wont work. gear shifter is stuck. (this morning the exclamation symbol was lit on dash, then on the drive home, ABS and battery light was going on/off. Seemed to turn on when at stop signs, would go away when driving again. Also, turning off a/c made battery light go off. then after car died and it got jumped, all the error lights on the dash were going on/off and the guages were flying up and down. Got it re-jumped to get to shop just across the street, but hasn't been able to get jumped since) Any help would be great, thank you!
