Asked by mnanang Apr 03, 2013 at 02:38 PM about the 2008 Toyota Sequoia SR5 5.7L

Question type: General

Were the 2008 sequoias and 4runner  models involved in the Toyota unintended acceleration problems and has this problem been rectified?

Has the 2008 sequioa an advantage over the 2007 model?

Sorry if I am asking too much. I planned buying the 4runner but has decided to make comparisons.  I do not plan any serious offroad.

Check the TPS reports as there will be a Technical Service Bulletin on this subject...Remember the Prius had this, or someone had defeated the floor mat anchors or put a custom floor mat in that led to the accident~

The 07 and 08 sequoia were not included in the "unintended acceleration" TSB. Toyota has been "hot coffeed" to death over this issue, which usually happens whenever someone wants a big cash lawsuit or a reporter or news agency wants to make a name for themselves. Remember, only 27 people died of "exploding gas tanks" during the Ford pinto and Mercury Bobcats 11 year run, but it became big news. There was a media agenda to destroy Ford, as had been done to GM during the 1960's with the Corvair. Some networks even set expolsives under fords to make the story bigger and more dramatic in prime time, going to the extreme claim that ALL Fords explode. I believe it was NBC who bricked the gas pedal of an Audi in the 1980's to "simulate the effect of unintended accelleration" (as they said when they got caught). As for the Prius, Who knows. Nobody has yet been able to recreate the accident under normal conditions and Toyota has spent billions doing research to clear their name and fix the problem. In regards to the 07 vs 08 Sequoia question:It was primarily a carry-over year, so there were not any signifigant changes, you just get one that's a year newer. As for my final thought on the pinto, my grandfather had a broken 1971 pinto in his driveway for years. He would hit it in the rear at speed with his beat up 68 Ford truck nearly every day "to get some of that explodin' Pinto money." It never blew up.

All kinds of reports...best to just do what your good sense tells you, for example do you really want to have to climb a ladder to get in? is your commanding view of everyone else really that important to you? it's just not sensible...Toyota corolla, there's a sensible car.
