Why is my car stalling when I crank it after I get gas?

I have to push on the gas pedal and turn
over the ignition several times before it will
actually crank.

It is taking several tries before it will crank, I have to push on the gas pedal several times, and it will seem like it's trying to crank, and then it will die (cut off). But it's only when I put gas in the car.
