Milegae inconsistency

Asked by shakhyjah Jun 15, 2016 at 09:25 AM about the 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS FWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Thinking about getting 2009 Hyundai sonata?
im thinking about get a 2009 Hyundai sonata gls financed
through my bank. On the website its 48 k miles on but on
the car fax its has a mileage inconsistency. The car has
had 2 owners also. First owner had it for 4 years and the
second for 3 and a half. what do you guys think?

on 07/11/2012 it had 38,050 miles and then thats when the
inconsistency is reported

Then on 11/29/2012 it says it has 13,783 miles
And today its has 47,847

Instead of 47,847 k could it posiibly have 85,897
(38,050+47,847) miles on it. How many miles do you think
it really has on it? Or should i just move on to another
dealer?
Thanks in advance

Walk AWAY! lots of cars available! Get the VIN number so it can be reported to the proper agency this is FEDERAL government issue...If there has been "tampering" without certification.Mention this to the dealer after you have the VIN number..Regards

Most likely one of two things happened, both data entry errors. Either the car with 13K miles was entered with the VIN of the higher mileage car or that VIN had an incorrect mileage entered during a service visit. CarFax just reports data they do not verify it and data entry errors happen all the time. I had a car in inventory once that showed 10 service visits at a dealership 1000 miles away from where it was registered in a state that it had never been in. The dealer down there had entered the VIN incorrectly on a car that had been in for service and every time it was in there that visit popped up on my car's CarFax. Today's cars are almost impossible to tamper with the odometer. CarFax has a process in place for removing incorrect entries.
