2009 cobalt - engine power reduced

my grandson has a 2009 cheve cobalt it fairly good shape - we try keep it  
maintained there has been one huge question mark we have re a regular
problem occuring off and on the last month.  every one in awhile it loses
power nd it says engine power reduced., then comes to a halt.  sometimes it
starts up sometimes not i had it towed twice my regular mechanic cant see to
find the problem can you help it is interfering with his work schedule. im not
sure if its 1lt couple fwd  the registration just says cobalt lt couple passenger

If the check engine light is on, visit your local auto parts store and have them scan the computer for trouble codes. Then go from there. I'd suggest taking it to your local Chevrolet Dealer. But be prepared. It's a 15 year old GM that will be plagued with electrical problems that most likely won't be able to be fixed. If it were me, I'd trade it in before putting a lot of money into it.
