I have a 2007 chevy cobalt and my key got stuck in the ignition when my battery went dead.

I saw a previous post on here that said to pull off the quarter-sized
panel beneath the steering and press white button. I pulled the
panel off, but there is no button...only wiring. I hope to pull the key
out once the car is jumped. However, i would like to know what to
do should this happen again. This appears to be a known issue.

You have to feel around for it, it is there. Put your thumb in the slot and feel a little to the left. The hardest part is finding the thing.
The main problem for this issue lies in the shifter assembly, there is a metal bar that falls out of place and has to be put back in the right place. Very easy fix.
Send me a message and I can. Get a good diagram of how everything fits together and send it back to you.
I apologize. I finally figured it out after a few tries. I didnt have a light handy and was feeling for somthing to push (like a button), but i did figure it out. Thank you!
