Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2009 Chevy Malibu. I was driving through the neighborhood (thank goodness) Sunday afternoon, when it felt like I had lost power. My car has the option to use the paddle shifters so I thought I had accidently knocked it into manual. I did not. I then put my foot on the gas and it continued to slow. My car slowed and slowed until it finally came to a complete stop. I tried to start it again and it turned over and a second later it shuts back off. I don't want to go through the pain of buying a new fuel pump if that is not what is wrong with it. Any ideas?

Do you have a CEL light on the dashboard lighting up?

when I turn it over it goes out. but when it is just running off the battery it is on. we also checked all the fuses and they are all good.

Ok. So when it's running the Check Engine Light is on. Take it to AutoZone or someplace like that and have them read the trouble codes for free. Then you will have a good idea what you need to do.

It doesn't drive:) . A friend of mine let us use his and it didn't read any codes. except the passenger side airbag, but that light has been on for over 2 years now.

You should be able to hear the fuel pump work for a few seconds when you turn the key. Then you will know if you need a new pump. Let me know what happens.

Did you check your battery terminals. Sometimes corrosion builds up. If so clean off terminals. I had a similar situation which turned out to be the battery and corrosion.
