09 Chevy Malibu LT it is a 4cyclinder. I was at a stop light and when I took my foot off the brake, press the gas, engine revs a couple of times before shifting in gear to drive. What is wrong?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

engine revs anytime I press on the gas pedal until it kicks into gear to drive. Would a new transmission fix this?  I was told the drum and pin was broke and a new transmission would fix the problem.
