Water Pump

Asked by MsJazzy4470 Feb 16, 2019 at 06:42 PM about the 2009 Lincoln MKZ AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car overheated, 1 person say oil mixed
into engine, could fix water pump but
he wont change timing belt when he
fixes water pump, then if this starts
knocking, he may have to replace
engine, so work on pump, could be up
to $2000, if replace engine, $3500.
Depends on how bad oil mixed. Is this 2
much? Picture of dip stick, where the
mixing is concerned

So are you saying it could be worse and maybe the engine itself?

My guess is head gaskets due to warping the heads (overheating). Have your mechanic explain how the water pump can mix engine oil into the coolant. If he can't you need to find one that knows what they are talking about.

The photo is not that clear but that does not look like an oil/water mix to me.

Ok thanks. The shop recommended that he really wont know until he tears ut diwn while 1 guy is saying, it's the water pump and maybe a hose and that's it. Here's another picture

Thank you. I've been so stressed over my car, first really bad experience especially since out of warranty. I drove it too long without realizing it was overheated as I got no real sign other than engine light. Thank you cargurus

Oil/water mix looks like a yellow/brown foam. Nasty stuff. Look at the coolant too while you are at it.
