is 26 in rims safe on an escalade?
Asked by Jun Nov 10, 2010 at 03:46 PM about the 2009 Cadillac Escalade 4WD
Question type: Car Customization
i was looking towards buying a used escalade that has about 30000 miles on it. the only thing was that it has a 26 inch rims on it so then when you turn, the tires hit the inside plastic parts. and I dont know if the previous owner did any type of new suspension work. and when i took it for a test drive on the highway, the car rattled a lot. im scared to buy it because I talked to a guy from a cadillac dealer and he said 24 inch rims are okay, but he has seen people with 26 inch rims on an escalade with a lot of problems. Even far as the wheels just snapping off the car. Is this dealer guy just trying to scare me?

sounds like it but one thing is the rubbing if its over bumps then the rims and tires are too tall but if its rubbing on the sides that means that the tires are too wide. it sounds like the rattling might be just a loose splash gaurd that will rattle in the wind but if its always rubbing the tires are too tall but if its only when you turn then the tires are too wide. it is near impossible that the tires will just fall off un less its a really powerful old old car where the wheel studs are rusted. I think theres mabey somthing wrong with the dealer he sounds ubsurd im just saying

I am surprised the dealer didn't tell you that your warranty would be voided with any rims over 24". This is exactly what the dealer told me when I purchased mine. I would definitely look into that.
They did say that, but they said they never saw anyone with 24 inch rims with problem. They saw people with 26 inch rims though.
24 inch is as far as you would want to go,if it has a lot of rattles beware of it.

I have never had problems with mine...
Looks as if yours is very well taken care of,by the pic.a 99 should not have the ratteles he sayes it has, just because it is a caddy, dont mean the last owner abused it.

I personally think that 26'' rims are too big for any truck. I just got these 24'' Cadillac wheels and they are brilliant. I bought these from http://www.usarim.com/cadillac-escalade-wheels-rims.html

I have 26 inches rims on my 2004 escalade It rattled at the beginning ,I had to get centre rims ,on the hubs ...any wheel repear shop should have those ... If this helps
I have 26 rims on my cadillac escalade it's a 2007 and I don't have any problems with it you do have to balance your wheels so that it doesn't vibrate when your driving it
I have a 2007 Avalanche with 26" rims/low profile tires. When I purchased the vehicle (used), it came with the tires & rims. The vehicle had the same issue you describe. To remedy the issue I installed Bill Steen shocks & struts. This lifted the vehicle about 3" and cured the rubbing of the wheel well when turning. Also very important, have all 4 tires laser balanced. Each tire took between 30-45 minutes to balance. After the new quality shocks & struts and tire balancing you will be amazed at the difference☆
What Brand & What Style of Rims are these ? Maybe migration_pgiroua knows?
